A new rehab. Ralphie's even cuter.

Miller Electric is donating a house to RADO, along with the cost of moving said house into its new location. This generosity is just one of the wacky inefficiencies you have to deal with in a lovely historic district. It's not legal to tear down homes in the district unless they are condemned, which means you sometimes end up with the totally absurd choice: either don't develop, or move the house.

Not to be told when or when not to expand, Miller has made the valiant and expensive choice to pay for the relocation of this house on Rosselle Street. I went in yesterday to investigate and photograph.

You can hardly see the house for its lush mantle of Virginia Creeper and other foliage, and indoors I found a nice floorplan littered with clothing and other detritus from what looked like a hasty move. It'll look great over in Green on Green once it's there, but like some of our other rehabs it's going to take a lot of work.

Speaking of which, just a few block to the west, our dear little Ralphie is looking better every day. The floors have been sanded and will be refinished this week. The walls inside have been painted a hypnotic eggshell blue, and the kitchen cabinets are all in place.

After the floors, we'll be re-landscaping the front yard with some native plants for a lovely and water-wise facelift. Stay tuned for more photos as we keep polishing up this little gem. It'll be glinting in no time, and perfect for a small family's first home.

Trolley time.

If all your bruises are healed from the Bury Your Bike festival this weekend, but your rims are still bent from that pothole you failed to see as you tried to escape from a zombie cyclist, and you just HAVE to have a Burrito for lunch today, what are you going to do?

Starting today you can take the Riverside Trolley for free from the Five Points area to downtown for lunch. The trolley runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm (first trolley leaving Riverside is at 10:44am). After May 16th the ride will cost you 50 cents each way.

For more information, including terminal stops, click here.

Why don't they have a route map?

As our friends at MetroJacksonville remind us, this isn't real public transit. Don't settle for this, Riverside! You can have more. This city needs more and deserves more. But show your support, nonetheless. There is no excuse for you to drive for that Burrito, ya hear? I'll be out on my red bike patrolling...
